Sue me. I was in the mood for something loud and brainless. And hey, xXx certainly delivers on that front.
Actually, it struck me as a weird film. I've never seen anything try quite so hard to be cool, yet give itself so little to work with. It was filmed like a series of music videos with the occasional segment of dialogue, but set in eastern europe - which, whilst admittedly pretty, is not the first place you think of to epitomise cool. The premise is similarly awkward; Xander Cage is a bad-ass extreme sports rebel dude (best line: "You hire someone to save the world, you better make sure they like it the way it is now"), but he ends up as the embodiment of patriotic duty. It's cool to serve your country, kids!
The 'splosions were pretty, though (if improbable). Plus, there was a trailer for The Two Towers, which by itself made up for any failings the main feature may have had.
