So here I am again.

I guess I've caught the blogging bug but good. When it all happened, I wasn't even sure that I wanted another journal; after a week and a half, I was itching to write. And I felt out of touch; disconnected. So, here I am again.

If I'd wanted to, I could probably have gotten away with undeleting [livejournal.com profile] malenfant and editing the past, erasing the troublesome entries. All the problems they caused, all the worries and threats - they've pretty much all been resolved. There have been apologies and explanations. More on my side, obviously, but some from her as well. Hopefully, things can be rebuilt.

But as much as anything else, I wanted to draw a line under the whole affair. It was an episode. Not a pretty one, not one I'm proud of, but at least it's done now.

Coming up with a new name was hard, though. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, many of which made me laugh out loud; but in the end, as you can see, I went for something else.

There were a few things I wanted from the name. First amongst them was, I wanted a name for the journal, not for me. I wanted something descriptive, and ideally something SF-related. Many suggestions fell by the wayside. I'd have used 'distraction' if it was still available. 'Alethiometrist' is a beautiful word, and 'refugium' has a nicely ironic ring to it, but neither of them felt quite right. There really should be a blog called 'axiomatic', and another called 'accelerando'; but neither would be my sort of blog. They'd probably be more reminiscent of interconnected. 'Omegatropic' was an early front-runner; 'moving or growing towards the last', it means, and (to my ears at least) that's a nicely melancholy sentiment. The winner, though, is another Stephen Baxter reference: Coalescent. The cohering of disparate parts. Sounds a little more upbeat, don't you think?
