Yup. Still "Good, for family tea-time TV.", but definitely worth watching.

Good on several levels too: scarey, pointed comment, and personal growth for Doctor.

Still suffered from RTD's vision of the future being the 20th/21st century but with space. I know you need to make it so you can still relate to them, but they dress and talk identically to present day people and yet the surrounding society they're supposed to be in is clearly bonkers (with that peculiar in-flight entertainment thing)

True. But allowing for that, he chose a story that played to his strengths -- dialogue and character interaction -- and avoided his big weakness, which is coming up with convincing and coherent background/explanation.

- Clearly a 'bottle episode' (don't get me wrong, they can be good - but we can expect spectacular SFX in the next ep or so then)
- ISWYM about the culture being 20th / 21st century Earth. If they are on this distant planet and all that where are the other alien races? Or is it just humans and Gallifreyans everywhere?

Certainly better than what he's been producing so far, and especially as it isn't a retread of one of his previous stories, but there wasn't enough material for the whole hour. It would have made a very good half hour story.

Well, I didn't think any of the debates dragged on too long, although I might agree that it took slightly longer getting going than was necessary. (And even then I don't think the premise in itself is too slender to fill out a whole hour, it just needs to be restructured a bit.)

It's episode 4x10, "Midnight". Although to be honest, if you're going to download one story from this season, it should be the Moffat.

I wish to examine this proposition that Mr T-Davies has written a good episode.
