Compared to previous years, this is an impressively large and eclectic selection of short fiction. And because a large number of the nominees are available online, you can easily check them out and see if you think they deserve a nomination. My picks, for what it's worth, would be 'Anyway' by M. Rickert, 'Magic for Beginners' by Kelly Link, 'Keyboard Practice ...' by John G. McDaid, 'Heads Down, Thumbs Up' by Gavin Grant, 'Summer Ice' By Holly Phillips, and 'Two Dreams on Trains' by Elizabeth Bear ... and of course you can always nominate something that's not already there.

Unlike the other categories, the winner of the non-fiction award will be chosen by a panel of judges (of which I am one); like the other categories, we still need your nominations for pieces of writing about sf or fantasy published in 2005, because I know there must be things we've missed. Again, as with all the other categories, nominations should be sent to awards[at]fishlifter.demon.co.uk

To reiterate: nominations close on 21st January. Emails containing nominations should be sent to awards[at]fishlifter.demon.co.uk. Easy, right?

Not only have I only read four of these, I am a McAuley fan and yet managed to completely miss MINDS EYE. What's the point of living in the Commonwealth if I can't pillage the UK publishing industry to my heart's desire?

Who are the other non-fiction judges? There is no information on the web site.

Huh. I'm sure I've seen it on there somewhere. But the judges this year are me, Geneva, and Steve Jeffrey.
