Miscellany
Dec. 15th, 2002 08:22 pm- If they'd taken the time to consult OUSFG, they'd know that all they needed was a pound coin.
- The letter informing me of my salary arrived yesterday. It was enough to allow me to buy a Jazz, so today that's exactly what I did. Metallic black, and allowing for interruptions by christmas, it should be ready at the end of next week. Woohoo!
- The letter also said that when I accepted the job, Colwood would contact my referees. I always thought references were dealt with before job offers were made, but apparently not.
- The downside of all this is, I still haven't managed to do any christmas shopping, or write any christmas cards. Since I'm going to Oxford on tuesday, I should really get organised on this front.
- My next day off is wednesday. I'll be able to see The Two Towers on the day of release!
- My brother is back from university. He's already annoying me.

Date: 2002-12-15 01:21 pm (UTC)What happens if you're going on to a short-term contract, usually, is that your referees aren't contacted. The people you're being employed by, if they're doing short-term things, usually just want you for a particular job out of desperation. References are used later on, once you've started, so that they can offer you a permanent contract as and when that may be necessary.
What I found quite bizarre was that the Halifax this time around didn't ask for references, yet wrote me a letter after I'd started on a permanent basis saying 'Thanks for that, your refereees say you're lovely, your appointment is now permanaent and unconditional'.
I'd have bloody kicked up a fuss if it wasn't, let's put it that way.

Date: 2002-12-15 03:00 pm (UTC)I just booked. 7pm.
- My brother is back from university. He's already annoying me.
Mine is not, which is irritating cos I was going to take him to LotR, but he's chosen a free party above seeing cinematic wonders on the day of release. Never mind, I'm still on track to see all 3 on opening day.

Date: 2002-12-15 03:31 pm (UTC)Damn Warner Village only advanced booked their 12, 4 & 8pm showings.
Subsequently I'm in a soldout 4pm showing and their (this week announced) 10, 11, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 & 9pm showings are - as I speak - not sold out.
Admittedly, the only one good better than the 4 would've been 3pm but still, it's a minor difference.
Under 3 days...

So, you're gonna book for it, then? I imagine demand is pretty high wherever you go.
I only saw JB this weekend. Lord knows when I'll see LOTR. Probably the New Year. Or whenever. Have fun.

Brothers do that. I think they get special training or something.
