What's YOUR Writing Style?

"You are a freeform writer. Individualistic with a sense for the different and challenging, Walt Whitman and his poetry lacking meter and rhyme is just what the doctor ordered. You're quick to write something that the rest of the world doesn't accept as poetry, quick to separate yourself from the average joe. An author with a true sense of self, you have confidence in your abilities and aren't afraid to show it. :) GO YOU!"
Come to think of it, I have one piece of news: I'm going to the OUSFG christmas party tomorrow night. Then I'm going to come back and post News at 2am.
There's also a review brewing. Despite
mattia's warning, I went ahead and bought Misspent Youth.
(I've also bought, in the last couple of weeks: Lullaby, by Chuck Palahniuk; The Separation, The Dream Archipeligo and The Space Machine, by Chris Priest; The Body, by Hanif Kureishi; Science Fiction, by Adam Roberts; On Modern British Fiction, edited by Zachary Leader; Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison; Science Fiction 101, edited by Robert Silverberg; and a hardback copy of Evolution. Working in a bookshop is bad for my bank balance, discount or no discount.)

Methinks that 3 questions isn't really enough to guess my writing style.
And review Misspent Youth, as I'm considering buying it even though I vowed to have a nice long gap before embarking on another PFH epic after I finished Night's Dawn.

You are not a writer. Maybe you should take up some other field--like photography or painting or such? Cuz it seems you really weren't meant for the literary world..... ...Oh well. C'est la vie, right? We all have our weak points. Maybe writing's yours, eh?
Fair enough. I would like to be a writer, but my creative writing stinks (as do my attempts at 'reviews' and the like, but still...)
OUSFG Christmas Party
Also, as my avatar, you can maintain my reputation for chatting up girls by chatting up all the girls for me, right?

Date: 2002-11-30 04:58 am (UTC)I recently read Palahniuk's Choke and Lullaby and was reasonably disappointed. They're both very similar in style, content and message to Fight Club which gave me the impression that he's already said everything he wants to say and is desperately rehashing it over and over again. Having said that, Lullaby is quite readable (it's the superior book of the two in my opinion,) and provided at least a few hours entertainment on a long train journey.

I know, damnit! And in my case it's no discount :(

Date: 2002-11-30 03:00 pm (UTC)(I've also got "Invisible Monsters" but never got round to reading it.)
I've been meaning to find out quite what his other work, since, has been like however.

Date: 2002-12-01 01:19 pm (UTC)I was just intrigued to find (going by the blurb) a book about Langford-esque Basilisk-like material in the mainstream section. And I have to confess to not having read Fight Club.
Dangerous Visions

Date: 2002-12-01 01:17 pm (UTC)I've not actually read any of the stories yet, so I can't comment on their quality.

You are a dark writer. A fierce and loyal follower of Poe and the other gothic authors, you LOVE to instill a sense of revulsion and somewhat fear in your readers. You love to poke their brains with logic dealing with the darker side of the human mind and character. Truly surprising and a true individual, you'll do ANYTHING to create a scene. :)
