Jul. 30th, 2002 11:00 pmI can't decide whether this (article contains spoilers for Unbreakable) is good or bad. On the one hand, this way we're getting different Shyamalan ideas, and avoiding sequel problems. On the other hand, I really, really liked Unbreakable...
I found another magic 8-ball, only it's much funnier than the last one. My personal favourite response is 'Answer unclear (West Wing hasn't covered that subject yet)'. :-)
In other news, the new Beth Orton album, 'Daybreaker', is great - possibly even better than the first two. I've certainly found it more immediate than the others; the songs have more elaborate instrumental arrangements, some of which are downright gorgeous, and the whole thing has an air of openness that 'Central Reservation' lacked - there's nothing as mournful as 'Blood Red River', for instance. I don't know if it was eligible for the Mercury Music Prize, but if she was, it's a crime that she wasn't nominated.
I'm not that impressed by the list this year, to be honest. The only band on there I would be happy to see win is Doves; unfortunately, I suspect The Streets is going to walk it.

Date: 2002-08-02 12:37 pm (UTC)OK, OK, so they probably did. But really, the only reason I can think of for nominating Gemma Hayes, decent though she is, instead of Beth Orton is a combination of (a) they've nominated Ms Orton before and wanted somebody new and (b) they didn't want to nominate two chick singer-songwriters.
Mind you, since it was a chick singer-songwriter wot won it last year, neither of them would have a chance this year. Oh, I'm so cynical.
