Not The Clarke Award
Mar. 25th, 2005 11:07 pmI have been on my first panel! Nothing like starting at the deep end ... Still, it seemed to go fairly well. Cheryl Morgan and I did not come to blows (we even agreed on some things!) and I think I only spoke so fast as to be incomprehensible a couple of times.
River of Gods was picked out as what should win by consensus, with a strong showing for Cloud Atlas. Mitchell's book was also picked as the likely winner, unless it goes to River or to The Time Traveller's Wife. Sadly Farah wasn't on the panel - voice still not strong enough.
Still, fun panel, and thanks to my fellow panelists. Despite the adrenaline withdrawal now taking its toll on my constitution, I think I could even be persuaded to do it again.

Actually, scanning the list now with my eyes, I'm desperately and foolishly trying not to hyperventilate, melting at the very idea of being able to fannishly drool over the possiblity of merely photographing these celebrities. :-) (breath! breath!)

Date: 2005-03-26 12:04 am (UTC)They stuck me on seven panels (and, in addition on a game show) here at Swancon, and I did my first con panel last April. I think doing sixx panels at Worldcon helped me get over the adrenalin thing, but I still feel unprepared for every panel.
(doing one on fannish courting rituals today. heh.)
I'm reading Cloud Atlas now, and enjoying it thoroughly.. River of Gods comes up soon on my reading list, after the new Daikaiju! anthology.
