The Halloween story at Strange Horizons was 'The Great Old Pumpkin' by John Aegard. If you can work out from the title what the story is about, I can pretty much guarantee you'll like it. I was grinning like a fool the whole way through, personally. [via [livejournal.com profile] sbisson]

In a couple of weeks, there'll be a British Polling Council, which will 'require members to disclose their sampling methods, the procedures used to assess raw data and the full wording of their questions and answers.' This can only be a good thing. [via [livejournal.com profile] anthonywells]

Kane (the band Christian Kane, otherwise known as Lindsey McDonald on Angel, is in) are actually pretty good, except when they tip over into full Garth Brooks excess. The support band, however (Charlie Bullitt, featuring Paul Cattermole, of all people), were rubbish.

[livejournal.com profile] yonmei would like to know who you think will win (as opposed to want to win) the US election, here. I'm still optimistic about Kerry's chances.

John Clute reviews Trujillo.

PostScripts issue two is due soon, hurrah. The lineup for issue three is also available. Elsewhere, contents and covers for Interzone 195 and TTA 40.

Tom would like you (or at least those of you who participated in GOOD or BAD) to eat his nift.

Coming soon: actual content! Maybe.

What a punchline on the pumpkin story! I should have seen it coming, but I did not. I can see what you mean about the stupid grin, too. Mine is going to be stuck for a while.

I should have seen it coming, but I did not

I know! And there's a blatant signpost in the first paragraph, too ...

I did get it from the title, but that didn't stop it being huge fun. Well linked that man.

Well, I got that it was Linus when he mentioned his last name, but I was completely surprised by the identity of the Doctor. That just made me giggle (in fact, my grin has just been refreshed).

It was this sentence I was thinking of: "That said, let us proceed with this court-compelled farce before my mad prattle provokes your crabbiness further" -- in particular, the word 'crabbiness'.

Oh, and I loved the bit where he shouts out the bit of the gospel that he worked so hard to learn for the school christmas show. :-D

Argh, I completely missed that. And I used to be a real Peanuts aficionado. But it's been a while.
Good stuff.
Btw, did the red hairspray wash out? I've sold stuff that apparently really did not. It took many bathings.

It washed out of my hair just fine. My scalp, however, is still a bit orange ... fortunately, not many people look down on me to see. :)

In the unlikely chance that someone notices, tell them it's sunburn from your mid-autumn break in the Caribbean. Envy will shut them up.

You were at the Kane gig?

Damn. I didn't know you were going.

Wait--you were at the Kane gig?

I almost posted something on lj before going, but decided not to at the last minute.

Of course I was at the Kane gig. Do you really think I was going to miss him singing with the band when I was already down in London for The White Room?

OK, so in retrospect I was being an idiot. :)

Dammit! So where were you in the venue? We were about five or six metres from the stage, on the left-hand side (so that we couldn't see the violinist).

Indeed. :-)

We had a table up near the bar, but I spent most of the time either stood on a chair behind the DJ booth or standing near the speakers on the left hand side of the stage where you got a really good view of Christian. I was wearing a black shirt with a cleavage boosting corsety top underneath and shimmery purple pvc trousers.

I know where you mean, but I don't remember anyone with an outfit matching that description. Oh, well. Another time! :)
