Those cavemen and astronauts, they get everywhere.

There really are all sorts of livejournals out there. Coming soon: blogging from the ISS.

Locus (the print version) reports that "Ken Macleod sold a new science fiction novel and an untitled fantasy novel to Tim Holman at Orbit and Patrick Nielsen Hayden at Tor via Mic Cheetham." Macleod does fantasy? Hmm...! Meanwhile, the other Macleod has handed in a fantasy novel and is working on some science fiction. As if it wasn't already hard enough keeping those two straight. ;-)

Grant Morrison's The Filth: Not just a guy thing. Although I'm not sure what to make of "Especially when it comes to sexuality, men are trained to think they’re in control of themselves. [...] and are sure they and all their friends are nice guys who would never assault anyone else."

Louis de Branges de Bourcia claims to have proved the Riemann hypothesis.

Harlan Ellison has settled with AOL.

A Year in the Linear City wallpaper makes me happy.

More bands should have songs with titles like 'Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll'. Particularly when they live up to the billing.

I'd tend to agree that both Animal Man and The Invisibles are better. The Filth is still good, although I need to re-read it to see if I can see what he was really getting at.

The Killers are the suck. That song especially is rank. They don't even approach rock nevermind rolling with it.

Par for the course for me to disagree :)

I'd argue that Morrison's run on Doom Patrol tops both Animal Man and The Invisibles. I'm not entirely sure what to make of The Filth yet, I think I need to find the time to read it all in one sitting.

They're playing Glasgow, you know. If you're not careful, you could miss out.

They're playing Tuts which is tiny and has been sold out for weeks. They are very in demand.

You'll have to tunnel in under the wall. Or, if it's an upstairs venue, abseil.

In his glam-rock phase, perhaps. Could happen! Should happen! "This one's called 'relativity' and it goes out to all my non-euclidean brothers in da housssseee!"

Please excuse the preceeding. I think I ate too much sugar this evening. :)

The Filth ... I've not read yet...

With Grant Morrison's subject matter, as much as I enjoyed The Invisibles, I don't know that there was enough there to keep me enthralled.

Caveman vs. Astronaut...

I'll say! A glam rocker would never say "da house" for a start.

The more important question is, who would win?

the filth - just a guy thing?

... that's just really weird. OK, the hero was male, but if we leave aside the marketing moron's hero-identification-is-impossible-outside-your-own-sex argument, a large proportion of the second stringers were powerful female characters, and they got rather more in the way of killer lines (one of the great joys of reading Mr Morrison) than you'd expect from dialogue distribution in the movies.

Who got to say "faster than the speed of wall", eh? Eh?

Or do all these characters somehow not count as women because they're shaving their heads, kicking arse and having sex (as opposed to obsessing about their diets, chasing boys and processing their emotions)?

Grumble grumble kids these days etc. etc.

Tough one...the question is: are there super-intelligent psychic post-nuclear Holocaust survivors at the Earth's Core or not? I mean, Beneath the Planet of the Apes presented one compelling interpretation of such a fight and its outcome. ;-)

At Les Edwards' house the other day I saw the original of his cover for A Year in the Linear City. He'll be bringing it to the BSFA interview on the 23rd along with a few others.

It suddenly came into my brain that caveman/astronaut is really just another way of saying upstairs/downstairs, but for men instead of women (caveman:astronaut::downstairs:upstairs, in case you were wondering).

Am working on incorporating this insight into my emerging binary-worldview/misanthropy-based grand unified theory of human psychology/sociobiology. Have already developed this far enough to predict the emergence of an Eloi/Morlock-like division in the human race, only backwards. Suggest we arm ourselves now.

That is all.
