So they just asked for volunteers to potentially be Clarke Award judges, and it's possible that Geneva and I put our names down...

And who might 'they' be, just as a matter of technical interest?

I spent a lot of time biting my lip during that discussion. The majority of the drones being female is not a feminist issue, it's a biological one.

Once again the book they chose as the probable winner was the one I hadn't read. At least this year it's simply because the library hasn't contacted me to say the reservation isn't in and not because the book is, cruelly, in short supply.

YES!

(Also, I'm fairly certain they're wrong about it being 'the first of a trilogy', at least in the way they were describing; I get the impression it's going to be much more like Time/Space/Origin, where the books are related but stand alone.)

Snap. I've been holding off buying it because, despite the glowing reviews, they've also been reviews that have made me think it's Not My Thing. But I have had it on order from the library for about a month...it just hasn't shown up.

Caroline Mullan. But I thought it was actually the chair (Claire Brialey) who brought it up.

I seem to remember that she, (Caroline Mullan) said it after talking about the number of books one has to read. My memory is notoriously shaky.
