BMW is using the music from Twin Peaks in one of its new ads. That ain't right.

A mixed review of The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by Lucius Shepard is here, and a remarkably frank interview with Kevin Smith about his new film Jersey Girl is here.

Salon vs. The New York Review of Books at the genre's core!

The world's most annoying sentence.

A really short short-story magazine.

And [livejournal.com profile] sparkymark is quite right; [livejournal.com profile] oxfordslacker really should watch Wonderfalls. Although he'd probably only deride Jaye for not being slack enough...

1. quit using so many subscription-links to interesting-sounding articles dammit (TM)

2. re: BMW ... yeah, to be expected I suppose. I've noticed a hyperactive use of cross-generational non-iconic late 70s/early 80s music being used in car commericals here. They deliberately try to do that musical age-targeting, aiming for the just-30 set for family cars; just-50 set for convertibles; just-70 set for luxury cars, etc.

Twin Peaks figures for the just-30 set.

3. I've heard mixed things about Spotless Mind as well. Am more likely to see Dawn of the Dead if I am to manage to get to a cinema though.

I just use Artsjournal's login (ajreader or ajreader@artsjournal.com, password = 'access').

And I really want Sunshine to be good, because I don't want to have to stop worshipping the ground on which Charlie Kaufman walks. ;-)

I'm really curious to what the most annoying sentence is now.

It's a composite of the world's most annoying phrases (see my reply to Zac for a username/password). And actually, it's two sentences:

At this moment in time, to be honest, this is, with all due respect, like, absolutely the most irritating sentence I could write. Basically, I hear what you are saying but at the end of the day, going forward, let's touch base and apply some blue sky thinking to this language thingy.

By all means, try to come up with another one.

It's fairly annoying. But I've seen worse. Far worse.

Admittedly largely from non-native english speakers, but still.

Like I said, the survey was actually for 'most annoying phrase'; I think we can all agree that 'at the end of the day' is right up there for teeth-grating. Grafting them together is the Times' way of drawing attention to the story.

Yeah - the Twin Peaks music was a bit jarring in that context.

On the subject of car ads, I'd just about got accustomed to the surveit of Lamb tracks in the Renault-sponsoring of things on Channel 4 (The West Wing and Six Feet Under come to mind), having had the albums for a while now - so was moderately freaked out by the use of Lamb in an Alpha Romeo ad.

Perhaps I should get out more.

The West Wing? On channel 4? Surely you jest!

BMW using Twin Peaks theme? No prob, given the often rather, er, strange design direction now on Beemers, thanks to head design thingy, Chris Bangle. I mean, have you seen the arse on a new Seven series?
