Post And Run
Dec. 31st, 2003 04:22 pmI was going mad without internet access. Nine days is too long, not least because you guys generated over 400 posts to catch up on. And after this, I'll be off again until monday. Sigh.
1. What did you last read?
Floater, by Lucius Shepard, courtesy of
greengolux. Before that, Ribofunk by Paul di Filippo, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K Dick, and several issues of Asimov's and Interzone that I'd never gotten around to during the rest of the year.
2. What are you reading now?
The Cassandra Complex by Brian Stableford, Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen (kinda stalled) White Light by Rudy Rucker (courtesy of
twic) and Voyages By Starlight by Ian R Macleod.
3. What do you plan to read next?
Erm. I still need to get around to Quicksilver, although it's dauntingly large. The Time-Traveller's Wife is due to arrive from Amazon Real Soon Now, and the new Kim Stanley Robinson (Forty Signs Of Rain) is out this month...Also, I really should get around to reading Brave New World sometime.
4. What would you like to read, but don't have?
Well, Forty Signs Of Rain has to be near the top of the pile. Also The Steampunk Trilogy by Paul di Filippo.
5. What would you recommend for others to read?
'Curator' by Charlie Stross, as the ultimate dysfunctional family reunion. I wasn't that impressed by the previous two Accelerando stories, but this one blew me away all over again. And so far, Voyages By Starlight. For a sample of Ian Macleod's writing (although not one that's in the collection), try this. Ribofunk was also excellent, even if most of the stories seemed to be missing an ending. At some point I'll do a best-of-year list. It may be a top five. I may have watched High Fidelity last night. :)
6. What's your favourite book from childhood?
I might have to say Swallows And Amazons to this.
7. What book last made you laugh?
Er, not sure. I don't laugh much when I'm reading, even if the book is funny. I sort of internalise the whole thing.
8. What book last made you weep?
I'm not sure a book ever has.
9. What book last made you angry?
Again, I'm not sure a book ever has.
