I could write about the capture of Saddam Hussein. I could write about the result of the Big Read. I could write about seeing The Matrix Revolutions on IMAX. I could write about the abolition of the LJ code system. Instead, I choose to get excited about this:

HBO has given the green light to a second season of its supernatural series Carnivale, ordering 13 more episodes, sources told The Hollywood Reporter. Production is expected to begin in the spring in anticipation of returning the Depression-era drama to air sometime in late 2004, the trade paper reported.

"Carnivale" averaged a little more than 3.5 million viewers in its first season, which coincided with the broadcast networks' fall launch. That's well below the ratings for HBO stalwarts "The Sopranos," "Sex and the City" and "Six Feet Under," but on a par with "The Wire," which will return for a third season next year.

The series appeared to hit a ratings trough early against stiff competition on the broadcast networks but surged in the latter half of its run even as its lead-out, the faux-reality series "K Street," faltered. Launched simultaneously with "Carnivale," "Street" will not return for a second season.

Um. Still watiting for news on that front. The good news is that (a) a second season makes a UK showing that much more likely, and (b) the DVDs are apparently going to be out areound Easter.
