So I've got my nice new Sony Ericsson T610 (even though I had to drive over to High Wycombe to collect it on Saturday morning, because they can only deliver it when I'm at work) and I'm having a lot of fun playing around with it (even though I can't transfer my old number until Wednesday because O2 are upgrading their customer service. Or something). One of the nifty things about this phone is that it has a built-in camera.

I want to be able to post pictures direct to livejournal.

The only problem is, I have no idea how to make it happen. I can email myself the pictures and then link to them next time I'm at a computer, but that doesn't have the same thrill of immediacy. And post-by-email won't work because it doesn't handle attachments. But I can't believe that there isn't a way to do this, so I thought I'd throw the question open to all the knowledgeable types on my friends list (*cough*[livejournal.com profile] tinyjo*cough*).

Anyone got any ideas?

In other news, I had an busy weekend that I may detail later, and my current icon won the poll, with the quarter-alethiometer a reasonably close second.

I've got a half written app - I really should get it finished... it works for my account so far, I just need to generalise it...

If you did, it would be greatly appreciated!

The email to lj system is going to be upgraded to allow attachments eventually - can you email images from your phone? Mind you, you never can tell what LJ coders mean by "eventually" and it's usually not fast.

All MMS messages are actually SMIL in an SMTP envelope, so all the elements are sent as if they were an email with attachments. Some operators, like Orange, do MMS to email gateways, so it's not too difficult to do...

Yes, I can send emails with attached images at the moment.

The app I've written strips the messages apart, turns the text into the body of a post, ftps the image to a known site, and generates an image tag to point to the URI of the uploaded image.

It's on brads to-do list, meaning it'll be ready any time from tomorrow to a year from now. You might be able to find a third party app to do this, but I don't know of any off-hand. scour the memories of [livejournal.com profile] lj_nifty is all I can suggest atm :(

A friend of mine has a friend who runs this

http://www.eidolon.co.uk/cams/

Which can spew out highly customised photoblogs with rss feeds.
That could then be rss fed into lj.

Hmm. I was hoping to keep it all within the same account, but that's certainly a nifty alternative. Thanks.
