So the boiler man came, and the boiler man went, and in between times he upgraded the status of my boiler to 'operational' but declared it unfit for use. Apparently when you switch it on the flames go places the flames are not meant to go. It looks, therefore, as though I will be paying for a new boiler in the near future. Bugger.
