Booker Shortlist Announced

First of all, a 'bah' to the absence of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I hope Brick Lane doesn't win for the hugely prejudiced reason that I'm sick to death of reading about it; I've heard good things about Vernon God Little; I would laugh long and loud if Atwood won; and I know nothing or next to nothing about the remaining books.
Last night I did make it to KTB's gig at the Port Mahon, along with
tinyjo and Helen. It was a tiny room, and it did seem at times as though the three of us were the only people there who weren't already close personal friends of KTB; but as it happens, that just made for a really good atmosphere. And that much-anticipated second album draws closer, since by my count she played seven songs not on All Calm In Dreamland.
- Monic Ali: Brick Lane
- Margaret Atwood: Oryx and Crake
- Damon Galgut: The Good Doctor
- Zoe Heller: Notes on a Scandal
- Clare Morrall: Astonishing Splashes of Colour
- DBC Pierre: Vernon God Little
