For those who might be interested, the review of Singularity Sky has been posted already. The question mark after '2000' is meant to be an ellipsis. And there's a hyphen missing just before 'alongside'. Damn me and my typos. But other than that, it's ok. And christ, scotland really is the place to come from in SF right now, isn't it?

Also, can anyone out there supply me with mpeg copies of Dead Like Me episodes 3 and 4 (and, ideally, 5)?

Charlie Stross is English (well, a Yorkshireman); he was born in Leeds. As he said to RevolutionSF (http://www.revolutionsf.com/article/1096.html):

"Firstly, I live in Edinburgh, Scotland, but I'm not from Scotland — I was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, have lived in a variety of parts of the UK, and just happen to have settled in Edinburgh for a while."

I think he's just cynically piggybacking on the whole Scottish SF Renaissance thing.

Oh, and what's this target="external" all about, then? Please tell me it was some kind of accident, and that you didn't deliberately make a popup link.

'fraid so. I asked about this a while back. Here's how I like to browse blogs and other link-based commentary: One browser window for reading, and one window for links (as long as it's the *same* window, and not a new window for each and every link). Hence, every link I put in my blog is targeted at window 'external'. With a tabbed browser such as Opera, this works even better, since links load in the background whilst I keep reading (particularly useful if I'm on a slow connection).

Now, I know you can shift-click to open in new window, but that's a hassle, and as far as I know there isn't a shortcut that means 'open in previously existing window, overriding the default setting to open in same window'. Shift-click leaves me with a whole bunch of windows. So just this once, I'm imposing my preference on the world. What I really want to know is, is there a shortcut that says 'open in the same window, overriding preference to open in new window'?
