This weekend is the first weekend for the best part of two months for which I have no plans. I'm not going anywhere; I don't have anyone coming to visit; I haven't arranged to go out with anyone. This is actually quite a nice feeling. I might actually get around to some of the things that have piled up whilst I've been busy. Not necessarily important or vital things, mind...

  • Finish The Master And Margarita (~150 pages remaining).

  • Finish Singularity Sky (~225 pages remaining).

  • Write reviews of the above.

  • Watch the last three Firefly episodes.

  • Watch at least the first episode of Dead Like Me to see what all the fuss is about.

  • Go to see Cypher, or Bellville Rendezvous, or both. If they're out. Failing that, go and see Jeremy Hardy vs the Israeli Army tonight.

  • Finish writing the piece for [livejournal.com profile] flyingsauce.

  • Investigate how much power showers cost.

  • Investigate how long it take to travel to Cheltenham by (a) road and (b) rail, and whether it make sense to try to find somewhere to stay overnight.

  • I'm going to be on holiday for that whole week, plus a couple extra days either side, so I need to work out what else I'm going to do with myself.

Meanwhile, this may be of interest to some:
Avast, me hearties! Welcome to the one and only, official, accept-no-substitutes Talk Like A Pirate Day website.

I still haven't found the Burgin & O'Conner version in the shops. I might have to give in and order online.

Forgive my sleepy self, but which week is "that whole week"?

Sorry, the week of the Cheltenham Festival. I've got friday 10th October to monday 19th october off work, inclusive. The bits of the festival I want to see are pretty much limited to the weekends, which means I could do other things in the middle if I want to.

Grr, I missed watching those on SciFi, as they were on just after I moved out of Jericho....

Any chance you could post me a copy of them...?

I don't have the tech to make copies (particularly since they've come to me as a DVD, not as CDs), and they're off to [livejournal.com profile] greengolux when I've watched them. But after that, I'll get them passed on to you.

Excellent

Speaking of DVDs, any news on the release date for the box set?

Beyond 'christmas. Ish', no, I haven't heard anything. On the plus side, though, there is definitely going to be a film.

Oooh, thank you!

I'll try to watch them as quickly as possible (crucially, before I lose DVD capability) so they can be passed on to [livejournal.com profile] gagravarr.

Ooh, can I have them after [livejournal.com profile] gagravarr has finished with them?

Yes, I think that can be arranged.

...Anyone else? :)

*raises hand*

I have the capacity to make CD copies, if anyone would prefer a CD copy to keep faster than they can get to the shiny DVD passing round.

In which case it might make sense for Geneva to send it to you rather than to Nick, I suppose...

Just to let you know, I'm having a hell of a time getting hold of A Year in The Linear City-Me-Bob or whatever it's called.

I'm beginning to think SF stands for Scarcely Found.

Oh, and I like the cut of Talk Like A Pirate Day's jib.

I think Niall pointed you at a free e-text version when he first recommended it, but I can't find that right now. The novella (novellette?) is very hard to get but it's in Cities along with 3 others which is easily available in all bookshops everywhere :P

Well, Andrew's already pointed out the Cities anthology, which also features good stuff by China Mieville and Geoff Ryman and is not particularly bank-balance threatening...Or, I have a copy of it in pdf format that I could email you. Or I could post you my dead-tree version.

You take back your power by identifying why you're doing the task and determining what your ultimate goal is by choosing it. If the other person doesn't want to help then that's his tiffany (http://www.tiffanybrandmall.com/) choice. Your choice is to do the best job you can do on the assignment and then you'll start thinking about how you can make your work even better. tiffanys (http://www.tiffanybrandmall.com/) You no longer waste energy on being angry at something you can't do anything about.
