Road Trip(s)
May. 29th, 2003 11:20 pmI have spent most of this week travelling to and from Birmingham. Or at least, that's what it feels like. A regular report of the weekend can be found here, with a multimedia version here; and it's worth noting that although KTB was far and away the best thing about the sunday-night gig (I'd forgotten quite how much more impressive her voice was live than on record), the multi-instrumental talents of
immortalradical were not as unimpressive as he thought they were. That said, it is his fault that I've had 'All The Things She Said' stuck in my head for the entire week.
Still, it was a good trip. This weekend, I go to Oxford to see the other half of my friends list;
greengolux is coming down,
tinyjo is having a barbeque, and there may even be a post-banquet banquet at some point. Whilst it can sometimes be frustrating having friends scattered quite so widely to the four corners of the country (and beyond), it does tend to mean that when get-togethers happen they're something special.
The second trip to Birmingham was yesterday, for a wedding. The bridegroom was my Dad's cousin, a sprightly 72 years of age. From somewhere he'd found a rocket-camera device. The way this worked was that everyone was herded out into a convenient field and gathered in a group. The rocket went up a couple of hundred feet, then separated into the body and a camera; when the parachute attached to the camera snapped open, the camera snapped the ground below. We won't know for sure that it's worked until the camera gets developed, but there's clearly the potential for the best wedding photos ever.
As an added bonus, this time around Andromeda was open. That shop is an excellent reason for me never to move to Birmingham; I could very easily spend hours and far too much money there. As it is, I was limited to cheap copies of The Affirmation and Kirinya only by the fact that we didn't get to the store until a mere fifteen minutes before closing time...

Date: 2003-05-29 04:07 pm (UTC)I was really pleased with the night as a whole, though. Always pleased when we can get KTB, of course, but I thought it all went smoothly except our set, and that's much more important than our single half-hour being perfect. I do, however, hope you've had our version of 'All The Things She Said' in your head. ;P
Oh ... and Andromeda was once twice the size it was now. :) It nearly closed a couple of years back, but they managed to just half the shop floor instead. Jolly good job, too!
Enjoy Oxford.
