...And there's a baby in the office!

He's fantastic. He's only just started walking, and the novelty clearly hasn't worn off yet, so he's tearing around all over the place. I did the peekaboo thing of hiding and then popping out so he could see me, and he just decided to charge at me. Well, at my knees, anyway.

I think I'm going to pack it all in and become a house husband.

I'm having flashbacks to mid-S3 Angel now......

Swishy black coat, nappies and bottles......

Ooh, were they wrong about me being the most likely ousfg member to breed next? Go on, you know you really want to go out and get one of those little guys of your very own...

Hmm...

This bet is becoming quite the quandry isn't it?

Who *will* be the breeding OUSFGi?

We've got couples and potential breeders, but do we have actual sprogs in the making? Hmmmm...

The mind baffles!

What sort of timeframe are we using here? Months? 1-4 years, 5-8 years, decades? Or whoever gets there first?

Oh boy (or girl, or alien as the case may be),

Z :-)

Babies can be fun, it's the worry associated with parenting that kills you ... hence far better/more fun to be a grandparent. ;-) (failing that, being a doting uncle is *the* answer)

re: househusbandry

Well, apart from the livestock implications of what that says ... ahem, actually an old prof of mine did just that back when his son was born. He sold his stake in a company at a loss, packed it all in, and moved the new family to a cabin in the Virginian mountains. He's done all right on material and familial fronts.

So that can certainly work Niall.

Yeah, I'm going to be trying my hand at being a babysitting cousin next year. I think that's about as close to parenthood as I want to get at the moment. ;)

'Fair nuff. FYI, my 'two mothers' neighbours seem to be doing quite well with their child.

I don't know if the baby was adopted, or if the sperm was donated.

Friendly word of warning. ;)

If you think you're tired now, you ain't seen nuthin' yet. House husbanding is hard work. My dad was a house husband for several years while my sister and I were little, and although I'm sure he found practical parenting very rewarding, I think he found it almost relaxing to go back to the world of work when we got a bit older. (Not that this kind of experience is limited to house husbands - I think something similar would probably apply to anyone having to cope with raising kids.)
