Lack Of Coordination
Nov. 27th, 2002 02:31 pmI appear to have triple-booked myself for this saturday. The options:
Behind door number one, we have the OUSFG christmas party. If I didn't go, it'd be the first party I'd have missed since I came to Oxford. There will also be people there I haven't seen for ages. On the other hand, if I go I really should make some attempt to think up a costume, and when Mike and
applez hit this country in december, I'll be back in Oxford anyway.
Behind door number two, we have a gathering of schoolfriends at Chris' house, occasioned by the arrival of his australian girlfriend on these shores. Much slacking and playstation-ing would follow, and it's not often we manage to coordinate enough to all get together. On the other hand, I saw everyone last night when we went to see Bond.
And behind door number three, we have umta's second birthday party. This would be the minimum effort option, since all it would require is that I sit in front of my computer for the evening. And I do feel that I've been neglecting the group somewhat recently, so it would be good to have an all-out posting spree, like the old days. On the other hand, in theory at least I can have a posting spree any day I like.
Right now, I have no idea which I'm going to do. Advice would be welcomed. In the meantime, I'll divert myself by doing one of those daft LJ quizzes, instead. Gacked from
thevoicewithin and
despotliz.
... is the oldest?
This is where my knowledge of the OUSFG elders fails me. I think the oldest is probably
cloudhigh, but it could be
e_pepys.
... is the youngest?
glennusx, I believe.
... doesn't live in the same country as you?
mattia,
applez.
... live in the same city as you?
Currently, none. Quite a few live in Oxford, though.
... go to the same school as you?
None. But most of those living in Oxford (and a couple not doing so) went to the same university...
... have you known (of) or had on your friends list for the longest length of time?
tinyjo. She gave me the code, she was the first person I added. I think.
... have you known (of) or had on your friends list for the shortest length of time?
greengolux, since she's only just jumped on the bandwagon.
... do you think you know the most about?
Oh, tough. If we're talking factually - where they went to school, what their favourite films are, what the last book they read is - then nobody, really, since I don't have a good memory for that stuff. Who have I known the longest?
tinyjo,
oxfordslacker,
squigglyruth and
truecatachresis. But that doesn't mean I know them best. I think I've got a pretty good handle on most of you, though, maybe with
pikelet and
brassyn shading to the top of the list.
It may be evident from the above that I'm reluctant to ever say I 'know' somebody.
... do you often chat to online (other than LJ comments)?
But including newsgroups and email?
despotliz,
gagravarr,
hawleygriffen,
pikelet and
mattia would probably top the list. But really, most people on a semi-regular basis, at least.
... do you love?
Nobody. But I like you all lots. :-)
... do you admire?
brassyn,
greengolux,
pikelet, and
tinyjo. Which makes it sound like I have nothing but contempt for the rest of you. That's clearly not true.
... do you think are the most gorgeous?
I'm tempted to answer
pikelet, but that would be shameless slash-fan baiting (you know who you are), so I won't.
... do you think are the most poetic?
pikelet and
hawleygriffen.
... do you think are the cutest?
Hem. Haw. Er, maybe
brassyn,
greengolux or
hawleygriffen, although I'm not sure how they'd react to being described as 'cute'. Especially since I haven't met two of them in real life.
pikelet has the munchkin thing going on, which I suppose could be seen as 'cute'.
... have made you cry?
Nobody.
... have you had an argument with?
brassyn. :-)
Probably plenty of the rest of you as well, but I tend to forget most of the arguments I have.
... have you talked to on the phone?
applez.
brassyn,
despotliz,
elleblue,
e_pepys,
gagravarr,
oxfordslacker,
pikelet,
sparkymark,
squigglyruth,
tinyjo and
truecatachresis.
... have you met in real life?
applez,
cleanskies,
cloudhigh,
despotliz,
elleblue,
e_pepys,
ficlogic,
gagravarr,
greengolux,
hsenag,
mattia,
oxfordslacker,
pikelet,
snowking,
sparkymark,
squigglyruth,
tinyjo,
toastie and
truecatachresis.
... would you like to meet in real life, but haven't yet?
Anyone not on the above list.

Mwah! Just as I put. And coupled with the above? tee-hee.
Is there a choice?
Now, let me get off my duff and share some wizened wisdom of the ages ... I dared miss one Christmas party, for something also fun and foolish ... bashing under Wales if memory serves ... and I received so vicious a berratement (okay, okay, okay - it was more a friendly 'where were you Zac?' over and over and over and ... you get the idea) that really truly, it is far better to go than not to. :-)
(in the style of Field of Dreams whispers)
"Go or they'll ask why, why, why..."

Date: 2002-11-27 09:43 am (UTC)Point 2: *SMAP* I've spoken to you on the phone. OK, like, once. To arrange meeting place for the first (and only) Oxford meetlet. Why does nobody remember me?
Point 3: Go to my LJ, and add any 'books you must buy' you see fit to my shopping list. I neeeeed more titles, only get the 30% once, y'know.

Date: 2002-11-27 03:47 pm (UTC)Here is my own..... I post it here because I can't be bothered posting it on my own site.
Who on your LJ friends list...
... is the oldest?
Without looking at da friends lists, it's more of a challenge that way, I really don't know, but most likely me or my less-evil twin, seperated only by a matter of indeterminate hours. I know I've just offended everyone out there by forgetting their birthday. Um, yeah, like I wanna be the oldest. *sob*
... is the youngest?
So not sure. I'm sure they'll know. I'll go with Taf's choice. Wonderful ficcy.
... doesn't live in the same country as you?
predictably, mattia. it's quite strange there aren't more than Recipe Guy Who Does Ze Accents.
... live in the same city as you?
Don't think there are any. Don't wanna know. Scary lot, they are.
... go to the same school as you?
V. doubtful that there were any. *gets paranoid* There weren't, were there?
... have you known (of) or had on your friends list for the longest length of time?
No clue. Probably snow, since he gave me my code and I'd have been in trouble if I didn't add 'im, I imagine. He's the king of something, y'know, can't remember what exactly.... ended with "ss"... chess? class? sass? bess? dunno any besses.
... have you known (of) or had on your friends list for the shortest length of time?
Probably the new writing community I joined.
... do you think you know the most about?
This is a hard one. Especially with my memory. Or lack of it. *ahem* Lj prolificness of posting helps.
Lessee, evilgiraffe, I think. Followed by malenfant and pikelet.
... do you often chat to online (other than LJ comments)?
it's a bit patchy at the mo', so there are no big chatters, buuuut i'd pick toastie, malenfant, and taf.
... do you love?
No-one. They all suck. lusers!!! *ahem*
... do you admire?
Admire? Hmm, I'd never really thought about that.
... do you think are the most gorgeous?
It's obviously ____________&_______________
... do you think are the most poetic?
me! I am! Hah!
... do you think are the cutest?
see above answer. me. no-one else. just me.
... have made you cry?
can't honestly say any post has made me cry, cold-hearted bitca that I am.
... have you had an argument with?
gosh, I've lost count.
... have you talked to on the phone?
zip. nada. none of 'em. I know I'd remember that. Only got one's phone number, so it would be a tad hard to.
... have you met in real life?
Oh, so many, I've lost count, I have. *tries not to laugh*
... would you like to meet in real life, but haven't yet?
see the "love" comment. lusers. Pah. feh.

Re: Ask a stupid question...
Date: 2002-11-28 12:54 pm (UTC)Then Niall does have a suitable long wool coat. Now all Niall needs is a two-tone jumper, a years-long cold (with tissue at the ready), and possibly a flimsy paper sign pinned to his shirt reading 'Milk' (or was it 'Cheese'?). :-)
Yes Niall, we have the technology, we will rebuild you ...

Date: 2002-11-28 02:20 pm (UTC)This is self-evidently true. But I don't hold it against you.
I think that the least you can do is to come to the xmas party..
Well, door number two is looking a bit closed, since others who said they were going may now not be going. So the odds of me turning up on saturday are increasing.
You could always come as Mike so that Tom isn't all left out..
That's a stroke of genius.
P.S. if it helps you are welcome to crash in our spare room
Thanks. I'll bear that in mind.
