There were quite a few things I liked, here and there, thoughout the series. The fact that Rose's perspective was sometimes shown to be very limited. Captain Jack's goodbye to Rose and the Doctor. Chris Ecclestone's performance. The single mother in 'The Doctor Dances'. But I have real trouble seeing any of the actual stories as worth writing home about. Most of them were contrived, most of them had such pedestrian direction that even uncharacteristically-impressive effects ended up seeming sub-par.
I voted 'good' for 'The End of the World', 'The Long Game', 'The Empty Child' and 'The Doctor Dances', but the only ones from that list I'd even consider telling a friend they should think about watching are the WWII ones. Unless you're eight, or just watching for empty fun, I simply do not get the appeal. I get the appeal of the concept - but of what's actually been on screen? Not so much.
But I'll probably end up watching the christmas special because, hey, it's not like there's much else on at that time of year to choose from ... :)
