Yes, it's a quiet Friday again, and a young man's mind turns to thoughts of GOOD or BAD. For those who haven't played before: below the cut is a poll, listing various things. Some of them matter, some of them really don't. All you have to do is decide whether each one is GOOD or BAD. There's no half-way house. This is what happened last time.

Ready to be mindlessly reductive? Go!

[Poll #493069]

EDIT: So far we have determined that Trig has no soul and that Mattia likes some weird things. Also, has anyone actually seen the black and white smarties in the wild? I know they're meant to exist, but I haven't been able to find them.

Re: American-style mustard, there's a caveat. It's the Best Mustard EVAR for hot dogs, decent on burgers, and absolutely useless for EVERYTHING ELSE.

You have a point about the hot dogs, but this does not outweigh its extreme wrongness in all other cases.

But this time you're concentrating, right?

Got the postcard today. It was not the pig I was looking for.

Cheers, dude :)

Cheered me up before I went into a meeting to discuss my failure to pass any mock exams and the potential deferral of the real things, anyway.

yellow!

what exactly is american style mustard, anyway?

Some kind of hypothetical 'Year's Best Writing About SF' book of essays, reviews, comment etc

So I'm not alone in having that thought.

I certainly can't claim credit - Mr Strahan mooted the idea on his blog. But it's a notion I like a lot. No idea how to make it happen, though.

Not knowing what PS238 is, I'm going to have to go with 'nope'.

The kind of weak, slightly thin, very yellow stuff that you do generally get on hot dogs. Not a patch on the real thing.

See the problem is I know what American mustard is, as we like to call it "mustard" here - how is "real mustard" different?

(and we have brown mustard too, you know.)

Ah...

...excellent comic by Aaron Williams (of Nodwick fame) about a school for the children of superheroes...

By 'American-Style', I've been assuming he means French's Mustard and its ilk. By 'Real Mustard', he means either English (brown) or French/Dijon-style 'Grey Poupon' mustard.

Well, it is very, very wrong in all other cases. But since we live in a world where Hot Dogs exist, it is, for that application, GOOD.

Mostly, I'd call it 'sweet', more than anything else. It bears little resemblance to actual mustard in terms of flavour.

Badness of X-Box design is mainly due to a) the controllers look to be Teh Suck and b) I saw a picture of the supposed design of the Nintendo Revolution and it looks to be kickass.

I have no idea what "The Inside" is, and American mustard is good only on burgers. Hot dogs are an abomination unto man.

Doesn't everyone but me think that about the current controllers?

!

Tim Minear's new show? Airs June 8th? Features Jane Espenson and David Fury on the writing staff and Adam Baldwin among the cast?

So wrong!

Ah yes, I'd missed that. What I was thinking of was a Year In Review-type annual publication that would have things like Adam Roberts ACCA round up but for each of the awards, second looks at the major novels, films, etc that would look at the critical reception they received. That sort of thing, not just straight reprints.

I don't know; is that the most appropriate venue for something like this? I have to say I was imagining a book that'd pull together the best blog-writing and the most interesting discussion threads, as well as the best formal reviews and essays.

The Inside

I was going a bit more generally. Pinky red? Full of half digested food? Pancreatic juice? BAD!
