I'm back! And I had a good time. And eventually managed to find most of the items of clothing that I needed. The trip back was fun; the flight we were meant to be on was cancelled due to lack of cabin crew (actually, it was the previous flight out from london that was cancelled, the fact that my flight was cancelled was just a knock-on effect). This meant we ended up on the late flight, which left at about 8pm. I was then shuffled around three different seats in order to accomodate families who had been split up in the attempts to fit everyone on to one flight. I ended up sitting behind a man who insisted on tilting his chair back as far as possible for the entire flight; as you may imagine, this did not leave me a huge amount of leg room, so I was a little cramped.

Thanks to:

My Dad, for being far more generous than I expected by not only using his air miles to buy my tickets, but deciding to pay for large chunks of the clothes I bought as well.

My Mum, for being generally Mum-like and level-headed.

(I wouldn't say I'm someone who is particularly close to my family. I don't feel the need to share everything that happens with my parents; if you read this regularly, you probably know as much or more about my life as they do. This may well change when I move out, since currently, as you might expect, there are lack of independence issues getting in the way, and these did carry over a little on the holiday. However, I want to be absolutely clear about one thing: My parents rock.)

[livejournal.com profile] applez for being host and tour guide extraodinaire, introducing me to Cowboy Bebop and at least two fine, fine eating establishments and generally being his usual genial self.

And last but not least, anyone who posted in this thread. It was very cool to log on every couple of days and find new messages, and it seems to have worked out as a rather neat summary of my holiday.

So...have I missed anything important?

De nada, any time

Besides, it was a fun challenge trying to find very oddly-sized clothes and footwear for you. LOL! :-)

Glad to see you're home.

Glad to know I watched (at least the teaser; I had to sleep - very tired, y'know) Angel before you, also.

I moved. I've been cut off from the internet and I'm using my brother's dial up account.

It so long to download the small version of the the Finding Nemo trailer.

Dunno. There was the whole Hoggeh thing, but he covered that. I updated my LJ with stuff in the first time in a month, having read Ted Chiangs SoYLaO, and being in want of more titles for to buy from the friendly neighborhood bookseller. Or alternatley, for to give my sister a list of books she can give me if she feels so inclined. Mwah hah hah.

Besides that: is Firefly at all like Cowboy Bebop beyond the, uh, Cowboyishness? And what the heck is your damn Angel epiphany, foo?

Oh yeah, and Welcome Back, and probably see ya weekend after next. Or something. Must work out details...argh! Damn Uni TA job persons not telling me WTF is going on...grr..

:-)

A belated welcome back.

"I ended up sitting behind a man who insisted on tilting his chair back as far as possible for the entire flight; as you may imagine, this did not leave me a huge amount of leg room, so I was a little cramped."

Eeesh. That wasn't very thoughtful of 'im.

"So...have I missed anything important?"

Well, as resident expert on things Cowboy Bebop and Firefly-ish (right, I'm stretching that last one), my tuppence:

Cowboy Bebop is anime, and the 'cowboy' theme - even with cool Martian deserts - is more metaphoric for what is at its core an episodic series about bounty hunters and their professional and personal relationships - and each character's history-come-back-to-haunt-them.

Firefly is well, with a couple of exceptions, largely 1880s Western themes, motiffs, and history distilled and injected into the vacuum of space. Personally, more fascinating than the odd combination of technologies (i.e. primitive slug-throwing guns in an interstellar anti-grav ship already considered 'old tech') is the complete retrograde social interaction ... not only did society not progress with technology, but took some massive steps backward - and without any apparent apocalypse motive. But I whinge about a series probably destined for the bin.
