Reading Therapy

It's amazing how reading can change my mood. I'd been feeling slightly strange, unsettled, disconsolate for the last day or so; not able to place the reason why, but it was frustrating, because it meant I didn't get that much done at work today and hey, just as a general rule it's not fun feeling out-of-sorts. Even I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue didn't lift the funk, but after dinner I sat down to read the first sixty-four pages of Ian McDonald's new novel, River of Gods, and now I feel just fine. Better than, even. And, at least so far, I don't have a bad word to say about the book, either. It was exactly what I needed after The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, which I finished yesterday and found myself less than taken by: pure,heavy, intoxicating future-shock in a glass. I swear, I could feel my consciousness expanding as I read it.
