First off, read this. From that humble usenet post sprang a web of in-jokes of almost byzantine complexity, such that by the time this was announced, it was unfortunately a matter of historical inevitability that [livejournal.com profile] pikelet and I would attend.

In other words, this evening Tim and I went to the Oxford Union to see Chris Rea. And, in all honesty, I have to say he turned out to be a pretty solid guy. Anecdote of the night: Whilst waiting for his life-saving operation, Rea overheard one of the nurses talking about 'On The Beach', and despaired at the thought that that was what he might be remembered for. So now he's made an authentic full-on blues record, to set the record straight (as it were).

However, the plan didn't stop there. Oh, no. You see, there were also trucking factors to consider (and I'm not even going to try to explain those). The upshot of which was that after the talk, Tim and I pursued the man Rea upstairs to the Morris room, where the Union hacks were holding post-event drinks. At this point, Tim wussed out, but even without his support I managed to return with my copy of the Trucks and Diggers kiddie board book autographed 'to piklet and sax' [sic] by the great man himself.

If I can arrange it, there will at some point be scans. But for now, I am tired and must sleep, else I will not get up in time for work tomorrow.

I am tired. I am going to have a TV evening tonight, I think. Buffy 7x03, Firefly 1x03 and Angel 4x01 (again). And quite possibly, a couple of episodes of Yes Minster from the S2 DVD I bought today. Should be fun.

Thank goodness I have the day off tomorrow. Even if I am going back to Oxford. Again.
