I went to the dentist this morning. Everything is fine, apart from the fact that my lower teeth are somewhat crooked. Apparently an orthodentist can fix this...for a couple of thousand pounds. The way the procedure was described was: 'They shape a wire to the shape your teeth should be in, then use this to rearrange them all in one procedure. We don't bother moving individual teeth around anymore, we do the whole lot at once.' This was said in encouraging tones, as though the thought of someone applying pressure to all my teeth would obviously be less traumatic than someone applying pressure to just one or two of my teeth.

Anyway, I'm vain enough that it's something I wouldn't mind having done At Some Point, but it's not a priority and I somehow think it's not going to happen in the near future. So I politely declined.

Meanwhile, the saga of mobile number transferrance continues. The problem has been that until today O2 have been 'upgrading their customer service' (whatever that means), so they haven't been able to accept my PAC. Today they took it and told me that they'd be transferring my number...on the 11th of December. I guess they've got a bit of a backlog to work through.

This is more irritating than anything else. It's not costing me any extra money, since the port will still happen during the same contract-month and I'm paying for two phones this month anyway (since I'm not organised enough to have arranged for the number to transfer on exactly the right day). Still, it's inconvenient to have to keep two phones hanging around.

That sounds extremely scary. But then, dentists scare me anyway. And the bills are only slightly less frightening (£500 to get my front teeth capped???)

It might be worth checking with oftel (http://www.oftel.gov.uk/) to see if they have broken their obligations regarding number porting and yell at them if so.

As far as I can tell they haven't yet, but I think they're going to. Apparently the porting process is supposed to happen between the hours of 11am and 3pm, but the man on the phone told me I wouldn't be able to use my phone between 9 and 5...

Niall, I can't say I've ever noticed anything wrong with your teeth. Certainly not thousands-of-pounds-wrong.

It always takes a working week, so 11th december is normal - they've just only just got round to inputting it in the system. So it goes, I guess.

Number porting

I just got a new phone, and was told that it's standard to have a seven day delay in switching the number over from the date the new network receives the PAC number. So that makes 11th Dec exactly right. It is annoying, but I think it's just the way these things are done.

PS. Your teeth look fine to me. *shrug*

One of my teeth is almost completely buried behind my other teeth. Like I said, it's not a big issue, but it does bug me (and if it gets any more serious, I'll have to have something done anyway).

Completely buried, and hence not noticeable. Get it improved, and you'll look hideous!
