Gigi Eligoloff, the show's executive producer, said the idea of this year's programme was to get "back to basics".

"We want to focus much more on the group dynamic this year," she said.

From here. I could question what on earth she thinks the previous Big Brother series have been about since all the show has ever had is the group dynamic and it's not like it made great TV the first three times, but I'm too busy being amused by the fact that Joss Whedon said something almost identical just before the start of season seven of Buffy.

The first season had a spark - there was a good dynamic created by some very different characters in the contestants. The second series lost that a bit. The third one... I didn't watch a lot of it but it was all about stupid games with walls and everyone seemed to be something of a clone of the others apart from the bloke who ran away.

Reality TV can never be, by definition, great television. Great television should take you away from reality not document the minutea details.

What BB and that ilk is is car-crash television. Take a bunch of self-centered wannabe's, ply them with enough booze and you are guaranteed to get screputicious blo-jobs, strip scrabble and skinny dipping.......

Go read Dead Famous by Ben Elton. A very wry look at the world of reality TV.........
