GOOD or BAD: It's back, and about time

In honour of the final episode of this series of Doctor Who, a Very Special Edition of GOOD or BAD: all thirteen episodes ready and waiting for you to pass arbitrary judgement upon them. Vote now!

[Poll #516009]

And if you wanted to use the comments to argue for what you think are the best and worst episodes, that'd be cool too.

EDIT: Interesting discussion about the finale on [livejournal.com profile] ajp's journal here.

Well, of course, none of them were really bad. The Long Game and the Aliens Of London two-parter were disappointing compared to the rest, but they certainly weren't bad as such...

I'd make the distinction, then, between "Brilliant" and "Good" rather than "Good" and "Bad"...

But the best were the Moffat two-parter, Father's Day, Dalek and the last two.

There were quite a few things I liked, here and there, thoughout the series. The fact that Rose's perspective was sometimes shown to be very limited. Captain Jack's goodbye to Rose and the Doctor. Chris Ecclestone's performance. The single mother in 'The Doctor Dances'. But I have real trouble seeing any of the actual stories as worth writing home about. Most of them were contrived, most of them had such pedestrian direction that even uncharacteristically-impressive effects ended up seeming sub-par.

I voted 'good' for 'The End of the World', 'The Long Game', 'The Empty Child' and 'The Doctor Dances', but the only ones from that list I'd even consider telling a friend they should think about watching are the WWII ones. Unless you're eight, or just watching for empty fun, I simply do not get the appeal. I get the appeal of the concept - but of what's actually been on screen? Not so much.

But I'll probably end up watching the christmas special because, hey, it's not like there's much else on at that time of year to choose from ... :)

This program will always hold fondness for me because it is the *first* TV program me and Emma (9) have sat together and watched, and we've both been excited by all the episodes. I have been excited watching her, and she has been excited as the storylines are simple, the humour obvious and the CGI not too scary. Perfectly aimed at an 8 year old audience.

I enjoy the original Dr Who as a child and I've enjoyed this season as an adult watching with a child. I am not sure I could ever call it stunning, thoughful, groundbreaking programming though. It was certainly not clever writing.

We'll be looking forward to the Christmas Special and the next season and I'm pleased the Beeb have decided to make it again.

I liked Boomtown so much that I almost didn't vote BAD for the Slitheen "pre-requisites". But did so (and for Bad Wolf, although with a second viewing skipping the tiresome Weakest Link session it was much better).

Not that I liked Boomtown that much, but as a prequisite for last nights epsiode, it merited a GOOD.

I want to vote on the new doctor too: BAD!

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you implying I think young people are BAD?

:P

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)

Get a community, you two!

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm not good enough for yours anymore, then?

[identity profile] snowking.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
You were never good enough for mine.... oh, the community. I think you need a Very Special And Wrong One all of your own.

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, he was just telling me I should flirt with you more.

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
All right, you can stop kissing up to him now.

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
you know I like you best

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
But I'm not a saint, right?

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
You're too bad to be a saint.

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
To the bone, baby, etc. etc.

[identity profile] hawleygriffen.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Now you're just being lazy in your flirting banter. With your experience, it's quite disappointing.

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
i know!

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
i will forgive you because i like you. also i will just picture you without a shirt.

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
This is probably for the best.

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Although my shirts remain slightly hurt.

[identity profile] chance88088.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
well, I've never actually seen these shirts - I might quite like them.

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You didn't like The Sparrow, so you clearly have the level of taste required.

[identity profile] hawleygriffen.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles*

[identity profile] immortalradical.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
For those episodes that I haven't seen, I have assumed they were as atrocious as the ones I did.

Eyetenkyew.

hee.

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Best: The Empty Child -- perfect fusion of old & new Who
Worst: WW3 got my lowest score (http://www.viragene.com/reviews/dw_new.htm), but I've blanked on it completely, so I'll go for The Long Game -- old-style production values, terrible cgi, interesting questions raised but not explored, easy-to-kill monsterTM

[identity profile] coalescent.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're asking whether I'm enjoying watching 'The Parting of the Ways' wobble between GOOD and BAD ... yes, I am. :p

[identity profile] wishus.livejournal.com 2005-06-19 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hullo there! For my twopenneth, I have to say I really liked pretty much the whole thing (but you knew I'd say that!) I guessed Christophger Ecclestone would make a damn fine Doctor, but was pleasantly surprised by Billie Piper. So far - from the 3 seconds we actually saw him, so I know this is perhaps a tad soon - David Tennant comes across a bit like Jim Dale of Carry On fame.
If there was one episode I got annoyed by, it was the Father's Day episode, because I thought they overplayed the car looping sequence, and I thought the conversation between little Rose and her mum about her daddy was unrealistic. I didn't mind the Daleks (Bad Wolf) episode at all, depsite the Big Brother stuff.
I think they got it just right for the target audience - older children - and I count myself as an older child :P

Ha ha, I am abusing your poll!
