GOOD or BAD: Summer miscellany

Once more unto the breach:

[Poll #1040140]

As ever, feel free to express your incredulity at others' choices in the form of a comment. For example: [livejournal.com profile] buymeaclue, why do you think it is GOOD that I have spilt tomato sauce on my copy of F100? [livejournal.com profile] despotliz, what have you got against mustard? Why do you all hate James Bond? And does anyone other than me even watch John From Cincinnati?

Pah, breakfast loving crazy people. Coffe's all anyone needs first thing.

Of course grease is good. How else are you going to lubricate your bonnet release?

[identity profile] despotliz.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Mustard is icky. You know John from Cincinnati is cancelled, right?

Anyone who skips breakfast is a crazy fool.

Terrible things happen to all of my nice copies of books. It pleases me to know that I'm not the only one.

I also am interested in an answer to this question. :)

And does anyone other than me even watch John From Cincinnati?

I keep trying to torrent it, without success.

Long titles are GOOD for charades purposes. Am assuming you mean Grease the Musical which is DOUBLE-PLUS-UNGOOD IN OH SO MANY WAYS. Skinny dipping is always preferable to swimming costumes, you can get dressed afterwards and then go swimming again a few hours later without having to deal with clammy ickness. Househunting is GOOD provided you don't actually need to find somewhere.

I have never met John from Cincinnati, despite the fact I have relatives in Cincinnati who must know at least one John.

Also, I will pay cash to anybody who goes swimming in a full-length dragon costume, complete with tail.

(What? I haven't had breakfast yet.)

Hey! Where's the love for DS9?

Now, granted, when I say GOOD I'm thinking about "Emissary", "Past Prologue", "Duet" and parts of "Battle Lines" and "Progress" (and also hopefully the season finale which I haven't watched yet) - all the Kira stuff, in other words - and ignoring everything else. But the rest of the season isn't actively bad (I say this having skipped "The Nagus"), just mediocre.

I said John from Cincinnati was bad because I have no idea what it is. This is in the spirit of GOOD/BAD as I understand it.

Who wants to bet on the gender divide on swimsuits?

[identity profile] pigeonhed.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Even John's mother didnt watch John From Cincinnati apparently....

[identity profile] jamiam.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. I just don't feel strongly about any of those things!

[identity profile] wg.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I have voted good for both fight outcome options - as long as I get to watch the boys grapple, I don't care who wins out of them as the winner is actually me ;)

And voted bad for all the things I've never watched, as is traditional. I did download the first episode of John from Cincinnati, but never got round to watching it. The fact that you are the only person I've seen around liking it hasn't bumped it up the queue :D

BOnd Rocks man, but I do like the book version...

or do people make their decisions on movie adaptions?

1. DS9 S1 - generally bad, but has at several saving graces that mark it better than subsequent seasons...the derelict feeling of the station, the Bajoran-Federation mutual distrust, and Bajoran factionalism, and some fun episodes at the point of ST:TNG handing off the torch to DS9. Of course, my memory may be faulty on that account, because it was around that time when the Data dreaming or theory of mind idea was explored.

Mind you - S1 of DS9 pales in comparison to S1 of B5...and I thought so at the time.

2. re: Bourne & Bond - firstly, you should define your Bond...I'd rather like seeing Bourne beat the living daylights out of Timothy Dalton, or evicerate Roger Moore...but for the other Bonds, I feel they'd make a far more interesting team. Unfortunately, with Daniel Craig's Bond, that'd be just a bit too over-testosteroned to put them both in the same scene...it could only work with terrible terrible slash. ;-)

3. re: John from Cincinnati - since I don't buy extra cable HBO, I haven't seen it...but the premise sound ridiculous. Surfer philosophy without bank robbery and parachuting is going no where fast. ;-p

Just to clarify:

First season of Deep Space Nine: A mixed bag - it had some very good episodes, some fairly bad episodes and quite a few rather bland episodes. It also felt a lot more episodic than the later seasons. Some people like that, some don't. Personally I'm a fan of the entire show, but then I haven't seen B5 yet.

Long titles: depends on whether they're good titles or not - I'm not really bothered about length so long as they're good.

Swimming costumes: Better than nudity, less good than proper clothing, useful for swimming in.

Simpsons movie: I haven't actually seen it so I am making an educated guess.

Grease: Musical good. Film bad. Lubricant good. Stuff on dirty things bad.

John From Cincinnati: Ce quoi?

San-serif text: Bad in general. 838 pages of it definitely so.

I hope by long titles you mean, for example:

Long Title: A Bill To establish the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission; to amend the
law relating to child support; to make provision about lump sum payments to or in respect of persons with diffuse mesothelioma; and for connected purposes.

as opposed to

Short Title: Child Maintenance and Other Payments Bill
